Dr. Szyf explains how DNAᵃᵍᵉ can help you discover your biological age

Meet Dr. Moshe Szyf, the scientist behind SRW's DNAᵃᵍᵉ, and a member of the SRW Scientist Advisory Board.

Dr Moshe Szyf has over 40 years industry experience, specialising in epigenetic discoveries to promote health and prevent disease. Dr. Syzf is the founder of the technology behind DNAᵃᵍᵉ, a saliva based DNA test that uses epigenetics to reveal the acting age of your cells - your biological age.

1). Please introduce yourself

I am a professor of pharmacology at McGill University. I am also associated with SRW scientific advisory board, and I'm the scientist behind the DNAᵃᵍᵉ product, which measures biological age.  I've been working on a field called DNA methylation for the last 40 years.

2). What is DNAᵃᵍᵉ?

DNAᵃᵍᵉ is a test that measures your biological age, based on DNA methylation. The process to get a biological age result for you, is to collect salvia which is then sent to our lab to analyse the epigenetic marks on the genes. And once we have these results, they are analysed by our computer, and our computer will calculate the age from those results.

The most important thing about this test is what you do about with your results. And SRW offer customised lifestyle advice and products that can help you improve your biological age. The test by itself, doesn't improve your life. It's what you do with it that improves your life. The test gives you a guide relative to where you should be with your age. And if you find out that you're older than you should be, perhaps there's certain things you can do.

3). What is biological age?

We all have our passports or IDs, and it tells us exactly when we were born. This is the chronological age, you were born on a certain date, in a certain month, on this certain year. Biological age is the age that tells you about your own clock.

The biological clock that you're measuring at a certain point, it's not a final clock. It's just a certain position at a certain time. It can change, and we have seen people that it changes. So the purpose of our DNA test is not to scare you, but it's to encourage you. To take some changes in issues that seem to be hampering your biological status.

4). Why did you choose to work with SRW Laboratories?

My interactions with SRW convinced me that they are keenly interested in improving human well-being and human health, and slowing down the process of ageing through educated, science-based interventions. All our discussions were based on data. They were based on information. There was a desire to understand, and to deliver really educated results.

SRW impressed me driven by knowledge and the whole setting of providing educated advice to people, how to change the lifestyle. Because just selling the test without providing advice, it kind of defeats the purpose.
